Mat holds a Masters degree in Sport and Recreation Business Management from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. His thesis focused on sport fan behaviour, specifically on those affected by the loss of a star player. Mat began his educational pursuit in sport obtaining an honours Bachelors degree in Sport Management at Brock University. He has 10 years of experience working in sport, serving as the athletic director of a private school in Toronto, league convener and organizer of a perennial golf event in support of the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario. He's also worked as a game day operations manager for an independent baseball team in Thunder Bay. In addition, Mat has volunteered as a coach for U20 and U14 basketball, soccer and volleyball teams and as an administrator for a nonprofit basketball camp. His teaching experience began as a high school teacher educating on personal fitness, physical education, career planning and mathematics across all four levels. He's been a college professor for three years and is working on his certificate in Teaching and Training Adults. To stay connected with industry, Mat works on the sport business side of operations for a digital marketing agency and maintains connections with several key individuals in Canadian sport. He currently spends his spare time volunteering in the rescue of at-risk dogs with an organization in Stouffville.
