Do thank-you emails after sports job interviews actually matter?

I always hear mixed advice about thank-you emails. Do hiring managers notice them, and is there a way to make the message useful instead of just sending a generic thank you?

A short thank-you note can still be useful because it reinforces professionalism and gives you one final opportunity to connect your experience to the conversation. Send it within a day, keep it brief and mention something specific you discussed. Avoid repeating your whole application or sending a long sales pitch. If several people interviewed you and you have their contact information, individual notes are better than one generic message. A thank-you email will not rescue a poor interview, but a thoughtful note can strengthen the impression you already made.
