Is it realistic to move into sports business in your 30s or later?

A lot of entry-level sports career advice is aimed at students. How should an experienced professional approach the industry without starting completely over?

Yes, but the strategy should be different from a student’s. Identify the function where your existing experience already has value, such as finance, HR, technology, sales, marketing, operations or analytics, and target sports organizations that need that capability. Learn the industry context and build relationships, but do not discard years of professional experience just to obtain a sports logo. You may need to accept some trade-offs in title, compensation or industry seniority, but a well-positioned lateral move can be more realistic than restarting at the bottom.
