When, if ever, is an unpaid sports internship worth considering?

An unpaid opportunity should be evaluated very carefully. It is more defensible when it is lawful where you live, has clear supervision and learning objectives, provides meaningful responsibilities, fits a limited schedule and gives access to experience you cannot reasonably obtain another way. Be cautious when the organization mainly needs free labour, cannot explain what you will learn or expects substantial hours that make paid work impossible. Before accepting, compare it with paid roles, campus experience and volunteering that may offer similar development. Relevant experience matters, but so does whether the arrangement is fair and sustainable.
