Certification and practical experience serve different purposes. Governing bodies and leagues may require specific credentials for certain levels, so you need to understand the rules in your sport. Beyond eligibility, employers look for evidence that you can teach, plan, communicate, develop athletes and work within a staff. Seek opportunities that let you design sessions, receive feedback and take responsibility for a group rather than only observing. Keep a coaching portfolio with plans, reflections and development examples. The strongest path usually combines the required credentials with progressively more meaningful coaching responsibility.
