Can working at a sports technology company help you move to a team or league later?

I am considering a role at a company that sells software to sports organizations. Would that still count as useful industry experience?

Yes, especially if the role helps you understand how sports organizations buy, implement and use technology. Vendor-side experience can expose you to multiple teams, workflows and business problems, which can be valuable later. Learn the customer’s use case rather than only the product pitch, and keep track of the projects you support. Roles in customer success, implementation, product, analytics and sales can all build transferable knowledge. If you eventually want to move to a team or league, be ready to explain what you learned about the operator’s side and why you now want to own the problem internally.
