Gridiron Gang is a film based on a true story. In it, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson plays Sean Porter, who works at the Kilpatrick Detention Centre. He's gotten tired of the youth at the facility leaving and only getting into more trouble, not having learned their lesson. As a result, he decides on creating a football team to make them more responsible and disciplined. He picks out who he thinks he can get through to, including rival gang members. With a poor start and tension within the players, is Porter in over his head? Or will he be able to make a difference in these young lives before it's too late?Â

This is the true story of someone who took the chance to change these young lives for the better. Through football, these boys learn to work together to succeed. That includes rival gang members. Gridiron Gang shows viewers the power of sport has on individuals. The training that gets these athletes not only physically fit, but mentally as well. They form strong bonds that we see eventually portrayed with one of the characters defending a former rival.Â
As a result of being part of this team, once they left the detention centre, many of these youth went on to do well for themselves. It's programs like these that could benefit the young so they don't fall into the wrong crowd. And if they did, programs at detention centres could correct those issues before their lives are fully ruined. With easier resources to sports, many lives can be saved, just like Sean Porter saved the lives of those at the Kilpatrick Detention Centre.
