The shift is usually from executing your own work to improving the work of a group. Show that you can plan projects, communicate priorities, train or support colleagues, handle trade-offs, give feedback and make decisions with incomplete information. Managers also need to understand why the work matters to the organization, not only how to complete the task. Look for opportunities to lead a project, own a process, coordinate cross-functional work or mentor a newer employee. When you interview for management, your examples should show how you created clarity and helped other people succeed, not simply that you were the highest-performing individual contributor.
