A good assessment should relate to the actual role and be clear about the time expected. Treat it as a chance to show your process, not only the final output. State assumptions, keep the scope appropriate and do not spend an unreasonable amount of unpaid time polishing beyond the brief. If the assignment is large or resembles real client work, it is reasonable to ask how the material will be used and whether compensation is provided. In your submission, make it easy for the reviewer to see how you reached the answer because judgment and communication are often part of what is being evaluated.
