Start with the objective and understand a small set of metrics across the funnel. Reach and impressions describe exposure; engagement measures interaction; click-through rate and traffic show response; conversion measures a desired action; retention or repeat behavior can show longer-term value. For ticketing or commerce, revenue and cost efficiency may matter. The important skill is not memorizing definitions but knowing which metric answers which question. If a campaign’s goal is email sign-ups, a large number of impressions is not enough. Practice explaining how you would choose a metric, what could distort it and what you would do next based on the result.
