Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is a comedy about the fictional top NASCAR Driver Ricky Bobby. Born in the back of his parent’s car as his dad sped past the hospital, he was always meant for life in the fast lane. When he grows up, while he’s working as the pit crew for a driver, he takes over for that driver who takes a break while in last place. Ricky ends up finishing in 3rd, launching his career as a NASCAR Driver. He starts to win most of his races, becoming rich and famous. One day, a new driver starts to get noticed. French Formula One Driver Jean Girard. With Jean taking over and Ricky getting into an accident, things start to go downhill for the former champion. And he’ll have to pull himself together if he wants to return to the success he once had.

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby shows us the world of stock car racing, its rivalries and life after accidents. Being accustomed to the winning life, Ricky feels challenged when newcomer Jean Girard starts to rise the ranks. It’s a mindset many athletes let themselves fall into which is never good. You start to lose focus and make mistakes which can lead to losses for you or your team. And it’s exactly what happens to Ricky Bobby.

With Jean starting to take over in a race, Ricky gets himself into an accident. One that leads to this downfall in racing. After his crash, he runs out of his car, stripping down to his underwear and running around thinking he’s on fire, which he is not. And after a hospital stay, he believes he is paralyzed, which he is also is not. Post-race life he becomes a pizza delivery man, but then loses his driver's license. From the life he lived, this was all a major downfall. But he was still too scared to go back into racing after his traumatic incident. And although it was done in a comedic way, this is a reality for some athletes.

Life-altering moments such as Ricky Bobby’s crash can affect the way athletes want to come back into sport. But, it’s in overcoming these incidents that make an athlete stronger, which can one day lead them back to victory. It’s always a great comeback story for them and an inspiration to hear.
