5 Key Components of an Interview with MLSE
Below, we’ll take you through 5 key components of a typical interview with MLSE. We’ve interviewed several applicants who applied to MLSE and went through a similar process to get a job (often entry-level) with MLSE.
An email confirmation from the Management Team
After you have received an initial phone call from MLSE stating that they are interested in bringing you in for an interview, stay tuned for an email confirmation. The confirmation will confirm the date, time, and location of your interview, as well as who your interview will be with. The person conducting the interview may vary depending on which position you are applying for, but be sure to remember who your interviewer is so that you can personally address them by name.
A group interview
Many interviews for positions with MLSE include a group interview. When you receive an email confirmation from someone in management, they may also let you know that you will be doing a group interview. If this is not confirmed in the email, be sure to ask the hiring manager whether you will be going in solo or as a group, as group interviews are not uncommon. Groups can be anywhere from 3-8 people in size, and depending on how many people are interviewing for the position, there may be more than one group interview being held. This means that there is a lot of competition – so get your sleep the night before so you can be on the top of your game during the interview with MLSE.
Internal and External candidates
When you go in for an interview, don’t be surprised if there are a lot of internal candidates in there with you. A lot of employees within MLSE are looking to climb the ladder, so are often applying for higher, or different, positions. Depending on who has applied for the position, you may be in a room with all external candidates, or alternatively, could be the only external candidate in the room. If this is the case, you may feel like you are at a disadvantage. Again, this is why you need to be at the top of your game on interview day. Go in positive and prepared, and you will have equal opportunity as everyone else – don’t let your insecurities get the best of you.
When interviewing in a group setting, it’s also important to know that not everyone may be applying to the same position. Some people may be applying for entry level positions, while others may be applying for account manager, and so on and so forth. So don’t panic too much if you are with a large group, because it doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone else is applying for the same position as you during an interview with MLSE.
The group interview process will take place during three different rounds.
Round 1: The getting to know you phase
This is the ice breaking stage of the interview process with MLSE . It’s the stage where you, the interviewers, and the other candidates can all get to know each other a little better. It involves general introductions, and may include questions like, “where are you from?” or “what is your favourite sports team?”. MLSE interviewers are aware that group interviews can be stressful, and this phase of the interview is designed to help put you at ease. No one said an interview with MLSE ain’t hard!
Round 2: Question cards
During this phase of the interview process with MLSE , cards are handed out in an attempt to get to know you better. Again, these questions are designed to keep you at ease. The intent here is to get to know your personality, while at the same time determining what kind of employee you would be.
Questions may include things like:
- “if you were to win the lottery tomorrow?”
- “where would you go and why?”
- “if you were going on a first date, what restaurant would you go to and why?”
During this phase, everyone will get a different question. Of course, these aren’t typical interview questions, but they keep the conversation light, while at the same time giving the interviewer some insight as to your values and beliefs – so keep your answers classy.
After the ice has been broken, the interviewers start to dig into your knowledge for business. This is where additional, more traditional, interview style questions will be asked. Questions may include things like, “why do you think Apple has such a strong leadership in the technology field?” or “What will you do within the first 30 days of your job to fit into the organization?” Again, everyone will be asked different questions, so head into your interview as prepared as possible so you don’t get stuck on the spot.
Round 3: Team questions
Once you have finished your individual questions in your interview with MLSE, you will then be broken down into teams and asked to answer interview questions as a group. Teams are given the same question, and are allotted 10 minutes to generate a response.
Keep in mind, that this is just a general outline of what to expect when you go for an interview with MLSE. The methods and interview techniques may vary depending on which position you are applying for, and who is interviewing you. If you are called in for a group interview, expect for it to last a while. In fact, you should expect the interview to last between 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours. Yes, this is much longer than a regular interview, but you need to remember that everyone in the interview needs to have their time to speak. It’s a long and lengthy process, but a job with the MLSE is very much worth it in the end!
