About Bad News Bears

Bad News Bears is a 2005 sports comedy starring Billy Bob Thornton as a little league coach of a team of child misfits, the Bears. Morris Buttermaker, a washed-up minor league pitcher turned professional exterminator takes his antics to the baseball field in an attempt to lead the struggling team to the league championship. When the kids get tired of Buttermaker's lack of leadership and drunken coaching style, the team quits, but their coach dissuades them from quitting and vows to take their run at the championship seriously. After recruiting star pitcher, 12-year old Amanda Whurlitzer and a strong hitter, local bad boy Kelly Leak, the uncoordinated team must decide to give their all in order to beat the rivalling Yankees in the league championship. But does the team have what it takes to pull out the ultimate win and prove themselves as winners?

Bad News Bears 's Relation To Sport Business

Bad News Bears shows viewers the trials and tribulations of a struggling little league baseball team. The film gives a direct look into an amateur sports team and shows young aspiring athletes learning the fundamentals of teamwork, determination and the important concept of never giving up. These are all things engraved into the minds of athletes participating in amateur sport, and are important aspects of the success and growth of both individual athletes and teams. Buttermaker decides to give his all to the kids in hopes to teach them a thing or two about taking sports seriously, something all young athletes should do in order to reap the benefits of amateur sport.

As Morris Buttermaker steps into the role of head coach, Bad News Bears gives a close look into the player side of sport. Although rather unconventional, Buttermaker's role as coach shows viewers different coaching strategies and techniques. Throughout the film we see Buttermaker evolve into a better coach, employing stronger strategies to teach kids the fundamentals of baseball. He is able to employ athletic drills, leadership skills, and teach the value of determination and grit to a group of young athletes directly involved in the player side of sport. This is something any athlete, coach, or individual involved on the player side can see and immediately relate to.
