About White Men Can't Jump

Billy Hoyle is a former college basketball player who is on the run with his girlfriend because of a gambling debt. To earn money, he starts to get into the streetball scene, hustling players who don't think he can play because he's white. One of these players is Sidney Deane, who is beaten in a game. As a result, he wants to team up with Hoyle and hustle other players to make even more money. With Hoyle's girlfriend wanting him to find a real job and Deane wanting to move his family out of their rough neighbourhood, is it all too much for them to handle?

White Men Can't Jump's Relation To Sport Business

Streetball is an amateur side of basketball that White Men Can't Jump focuses on. Though it isn't on the professional side, the athletes who partake still feel the heat of the competition in every one of their games. With money on the line, it makes everyone involved play their hardest to win the prize. We see the importance these games play for these athletes, not just as a recreational activity, but as a source for extra income as well.

Along with this, we see the role race plays in this movie. Billy Hoyle being white, is constantly believed to not be a great player solely because of how he looks. But he continues to prove them wrong as he and Deane continue to conquer the streets. It's a reminder to not judge a book by its cover and that any sport is for absolutely everyone.
