About Blue Mountain State
Blue Mountain State follows the stories of incoming freshmen at the school, Blue Mountain State. It also gives insight to their experience on their school’s football team, the Mountain Goats. It depicts stereotypical American university life, and how players must manage themselves on and off the field. This leads to many players being wrapped up in partying, drinking and hazing, rather than going to class and training. Alex Moran, the team’s starting quarterback and captain, and his best friend Sammy, the team mascot, are two of the show's main characters. Together they get into many difficult situations and must balance the responsibilities of being the face of the football team, all while balancing the life of being a student.

Being a student athlete can be extremely difficult. There’s a lot of pressure to perform well, and this can put strain on other aspects of their lives. Like in the case of Alex Moran and some of his teammates, their identity is closely tied to being an athlete. At the same time, they are just regular college students, and many still get involved with going to parties, and drinking. Another important aspect of college sport is hazing, which happens a lot in the show just like in society today. Although most hazing situations in the show were brushed off by those participating, many incidents in real life carry far worse consequences.
