Blades of Glory is a 2007 sports comedy starring Will Farrell and Jon Heder. The two play figure skaters named Chaz Michaels and Jimmy MacElroy. During the 2002 World Winter Sports Games, Michaels and MacElroy tie for gold. While up on the podium, the two start to argue and then end up in a fight which ends up getting the mascot caught on fire. Something that results in the two being stripped of their gold and a lifetime ban from competing again. A few years later, they're working different jobs until MacElroy is told about a loophole where they are technically only banned from competing in the men's singles, not in pair skating. They end up being brought together and must learn to get along if they want to be successful again. All this with competitors trying to sabotage them along the way.

Blades of Glory's Relation To Sport Business

Blades of Glory shows us the world of figure skating with world champions Chaz Michaels and Jimmy MacElroy. We see the two are clearly talented, having won gold at the World Winter Games. However, as rivals, they get into a fight and lose their titles and are banned from competing again. Sport banning is something we don't see too often and usually involves instances of cheating, including the use of performance-enhancing drugs. Whatever the case, it exists and depending on the severity, athletes may not be able to compete again.

While these two find the loophole that lets them come back, they'll also have to learn to work as a team. Because now, it's not just about one or the other. If they want to succeed they'll need team cohesion, even with others trying to tear them apart. 

Why watch Blades of Glory?

Usually, most sports movies focus on sports like football, basketball or baseball. Blades of Glory brings figure skating to the front and centre. And it is enjoyable! Will Ferrell and Jon Heder, known for their comedic films portray these characters hilariously. Though completely fictional and not serious at all, you'll still root them on as do their routines and learn to become friends.  After this watch, you'll want to lace up and head for your local rink yourself. So, give this one a chance when you need a laugh but still want your sports!
