About Forever Chape
Forever Chape is a Brazilian documentary on the team Associação Chapecoense de Futebol and their rise to success all the way up to the tragic air crash that claimed the lives of almost the entire team in 2016. With appearances from the few surviving players, family of the deceased, and other staff who didn’t make the flight, the film tells the story of a club from a small city bringing hope and passion to their fans. You will learn their history, their struggles to do well and the start of their success with climbing the divisions and becoming a fierce competitor in South American tournaments. Along with how they were able to start rebuilding to get back to where they were.
Forever Chape's Relation To Sport Business
There are two things we see in this documentary. The rising success of a soccer club and the aftermath of a devasting tragedy that killed most of the team. Chapecoense spent many years in the lower divisions of Brazilian soccer. But eventually, they began a success that brought them back up to the first division in 2014 since 1979. Their resilience and the building support of their fans encouraged them to rise up and show the country and all of South America that they were challengers. It’s something we want to see the teams we love do. It also shows the perseverance we sometimes love to see in the underdogs. The rewards of their success are shown in each division promotion they got and in their qualification for the Copa Sudamericana in which they made the quarter-finals in 2015 and the finals in 2016, the year of the accident.
After the plane crash, we see the struggle they were about to face. With almost all of their team gone and money already an issue they struggled with, the possibility of them not playing for a while seemed high. However, many other Brazilian clubs offered to loan Chapecoense their players. Thus, allowing them to continue play. Even in tragedy, teams still have to meet the qualifications of leagues and tournaments. Chapecoense was lucky enough to have the soccer community behind them. With the support of the rest of Brazil, they were able to keep on playing. And not only with them either. Their would-be Colombian opponents Atlético Nacional requested that Chapecoense be declared the winners of the Copa Sudamericana. A request that ended up being granted. With everyone coming together, the team was able to continue its legacy.
