Goal! The Dream begins stars Kuno Becker as Santiago Muñez, a young man from a poor family with the dream of becoming a professional soccer player. Any extra time he has away from work is spent playing with a local team. One day, he is noticed by a scout from England's Newcastle United and is offered a trial at the club. Although he doesn't have his father's approval, he goes anyway and faces the hardest challenges he's faced in his beloved sport. From being the new outcast to hiding a medical condition, he has A LOT of work to put in to keep his dream alive.

Goal!: The Dream Begins's Relation To Sport Business

As sports fans, when we watch a game in any given sport, some may wonder what it takes and the stories behind every successful athlete's journey. In Goal! The Dream Begins, you get an idea of this and the mechanics of discovering a new player, putting them through trials and slowly rising the ranks of reserves, to substitute to being on the main squad. We even watch as Santiago goes through a medical, a process many teams require of new athletes coming in. We also see the consequences of what can happen when you lie about your existing medical conditions.

Team dynamics also play a big part in the film. Coming in, Santiago was the target of bullying, not being used to the British's style of play. But once things seem like they're over and his dream is over, he is convinced by star teammate Gavin Harris to fight his spot on the team. The two become close friends, that is until Harris' party lifestyle leads to the two of them getting drunk and the media exposing them, upsetting their manager. These are the types of friction that can affect the way a team plays on the field unless things are worked out. But if worked out, you can see just how strong a team can be.

Why watch Goal!: The Dream Begins?

Overall, Goal! The Dream Begins is one to watch with friends and/or family. From the beginning, we watch the struggle Santiago's family goes through as they navigate their way in life through poverty. We see Santiago's struggle of making his father believe in him, the struggle of proving his skill and the struggle of being an athlete having asthma. It's one big dream, but so many bumps along the way. For fans of soccer, there are even some big names that make appearances in the movie. Like David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane, who play themselves. But, this movie is one that is guaranteed to be loved by fans of all sport. For myself, it's an inspiring story that teaches us not to give up on our dreams, no matter who or what gets in the way. We also learn about teamwork, and how important a role it is to rely on each other for success. This is a strong recommendation for sports fans and a must-watch for fans of soccer especially!
