Let's Ice Dance

Episode 15

Andrew Poje

Professional Ice Dancer

Skate Canada

Welcome to the fifteenth episode of The SnaP, a SPort MAnagement (SPMA) Hub digital show, featuring voices from the sport industry.

Andrew Poje is a three-time World medalist, a two-time Four Continents champion, and a three-time Canadian national champion. This guy knows his way around the ice!

Like many, he started his journey young. While originally he planned on being a hockey player, he ended up on quite a different path. This past season was his first time taking time off of figure skating since he was six years old! He has spent countless hours on the ice, training, falling and getting up again. He says that his career was “an up and down rollercoaster since the beginning,” but he is so proud of overcoming all the adversities.

Andrew tells us the difficulties of figure skating, both mental and physical. He says that the sport is really all about the journey and not the few minutes you see at competition. He and his partner Kaitlyn Weaver have traveled the world sharing their love for the sport with hundreds of thousands of spectators.

Andrew has learned to balance all of the demands of ice dancing with school and life, which is not an easy feat! Right now he is on a break from the competitive season but is not closing the door to returning.
