Episode 11

Sage Watson

400M Hurdles Star

Representing Canada

Welcome to the eleventh episode of The SnaP, a SPort MAnagement (SPMA) Hub digital show, featuring voices from the sport industry.

In this episode, we’re catching up with Canadian track star, Sage Watson! She competes internationally for Canada and is the reigning Pan American champion in the 400 metre hurdles!

We spoke to Sage just last year for a written interview and since then she has shown no sign of slowing down!

She is known for her crazy speed and bright red lipstick on the track, which has inspired women everywhere. People even put on red lipstick to show support for her during races. She told us that she started doing this to feel her best on the track and she didn’t imagine it would have such an impact.

Today, Sage Watson is talking to us about post-COVID running, the business side of being a professional athlete and her success growing on Instagram. She told us how important it is to stay true to yourself and be authentic on social media.

Sage Watson is a strong believer in branding and marketing yourself as a professional athlete. She uses her marketing degree to her advantage, but tells us balancing all of the content creation and training is more difficult than it looks!

Despite all of her success online, she made it clear that running will always be her number one priority.

Sage Watson is off to Europe in a few weeks wearing her signature bright red lip and hopefully, we will see her next year at Tokyo 2021.

It was wonderful to catch up with the amazing runner, and amazing person, Sage Watson.
